About Emmanuel Christian Academy

Emmanuel Christian Academy (ECA) was created to serve the staff of Emmanuel Christian College, Christian missionaries in South Sudan and the wider community. Due to the desperate need for quality education in a post-war South Sudan, families are separated in search of such education for their children in other East African countries. Emmanuel Christian Academy is an initiative to counter that tendency and provide Christian based quality education within South Sudan.

Since 2010, the Primary School operated in Goli, Yei River County. Up to 2018 the school served more than 400 children from the community. About half of the children were internally displaced from their homes due to the current conflict. The committed teachers provided hope and stability for these children. In May 2018 the ECU compound was attacked and the primary school had to be closed until further notice. However, Emmanuel Christian Academy – Secondary School is operating in Yei town since 2017. The students enjoy a conducive learning environment with competent teachers in small classes and the school prides as one of the best academic centers of excellence in Yei Town.

ECA provides education with a sound academic standard based on a firm Biblical and moral foundation, and with the purpose of equipping students to meet the challenges of modern day life.

At Emmanuel Christian Academy, we believe that education is not just about academics, but also about personal growth and community building. Although the focus of the school is to develop effective science and arts students’ learners at ECA have opportunities for extra-curricular activities: sports, debates, computers, journalism and Scripture union for their wholistic development.

Skills Development

Currently ECA is one of the best schools in Yei River County both in academic and sporting activities. We provide opportunities for learners to showcase their talents and enhance opportunities to develop the learner’s skills. Current students at ECA Secondary School have access to computer skills, sports; football both for boys and girls, valley ball both for boys and girls. ECASS students enjoy debates where communication and leadership skills are enhanced including the journalism skills.

Practical Science

We strive to inspire curiosity, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of God's creation. Our passion and commitment for self-discover learning made us invest for school library and Laboratory. Currently ECASS students are among a rare bread of learners in South Sudan who have access both to their own school library and laboratory.

"Well, what I think about the practical lessons is like a dream come true. I always admired performing experiments and discovering things, that had been taught theoretically. The practical in the laboratory helps me in different ways, like learning with evidence, share my ideas and hearing the ideas of my fellow mates, work independent in groups and become confident in following protocols. My best practical was the reaction of Sodium Carbonate. I loved the practical because it made everything real for me and I really learned so much from that."

"The practical that has been conducted in the school has really played a great role to me. It has widened my understanding capacity. In chemistry I am able to proof that paper chromatography is the method used to separate coloured mixtures. In Biology I learned how to work with the microscope, for example to discover plant cells. And this is only possible because of the practical in the school, what is really good. I am now able to understand science subjects into details. The science day was the best day that I had enjoyed ever and it helped me for easy understanding some topics. "
